By default, Copilots converse with you in the same language as your web browser’s preference. At the time of setting up your account, Copilot selects the default language in your browser’s settings as its primary language. However, you can add secondary language options to enable Copilot to interact with foreign-speaking customers in their preferred tongue—Configure Multilingual Copilots with the following simple steps.
- Launch the Copilot. Then, click “Languages” in the side navigation pane and choose “Add languages.”
- Next, a list of possible options for the Copilot’s secondary language will be displayed. The 24 supported languages on Copilot include Chinese, German, Japanese, Spanish, and many more. Select as many languages as you want to add to the Copilot.
- Once you are done with the selection, click on “Add Languages” at the bottom-right section of your screen. Go through your selection to ensure that the chosen list of languages is your preferred choice.
After you configure multilingual Copilots, you are recommended to test the feature before exposing it to your customers. Testing a multilingual Copilot is as easy as setting it up.
- Open the test Copilot and find the menu located at the top. Expand the menu and choose one of the Copilot’s secondary languages.
- After selecting a secondary language, the test Copilot will automatically reload itself. The authoring canvas displays content in the preferred secondary language.
- To test the Copilot, input a string of texts.
You can also change your Copilot’s secondary language to localize the strings. These are the procedures for managing localization in multilingual Copilots:
- On your Copilot, find “Languages (Preview) ” on the side navigation menu and choose “Update localizations.”
- Select JSON or ResX format on the displayed page. This action will download the most recent localization file for the specified language. Open the file and edit the primary language strings with the desirable translated text.
- After, go back to “Update localizations”, click on “Browse”, and upload the translated file. Close the page.
You should note that your Copilot’s primary language cannot be switched once it is built. The Copilot will always go back to its primary selection if you have not configured your multilingual Copilot to the language your web browser uses. Furthermore, if the Copilot author edits the Copilot in its primary language and doesn’t update the translations, the Copilot will display the untranslated edits in its primary language. You can customize the language option for each tool in the Microsoft 365 suite. For Microsoft Teams, locate “Settings” and click “Language.” Select the language you desire for the Teams app. For Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, find “Settings.” Choose “Change your language,” and follow the subsequent instructions. You can change the language in Microsoft365.com by simply exploring its “Settings” and clicking “Language and time zone.” Then, select “Change your language.” Microsoft Bing allows you to pick a display language and a search results language under “Language” in Settings. Currently, Microsoft 365 Copilot supports several languages, including English, French, Chinese, Italian, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Portuguese.
